(Crain's) ? Chicago's largest business schools are tied once again in a national ranking of graduate programs, and they've gained a notch.
Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management and the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business are both ranked No. 4 in the nation, along with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management, according to U.S. News & World Report.
The magazine releases its annual ranking of graduate schools today. The list also includes rankings for law and medical schools.

Kellogg and Booth both rose from their business school ranking in 2011, when they shared the No. 5 spot.
Harvard and Stanford universities top the list this year, while the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School comes in third.
The magazine compiles its annual B-school ranking by looking at the 441 master's programs in business that are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. U.S. News asks the schools to participate in surveys ? 136 were used for the rankings ? and then lists each program based on a composite score.
The score is tallied based on perceptions from peers and corporate recruiters, the average starting salary and bonus of 2011 graduates, employment rates, acceptance rates, mean GMAT scores and the GPA of undergraduates.
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was tied at No. 37 with the University of Rochester in New York and the University of Texas in Dallas.
Northwestern tops the list for part-time MBA programs, while the U of C ties for second place with the University of California at Berkeley.
The University of Chicago lands in a three-way tie for 10th place among research medical schools. That's a move up from 12th place on last year's list. It shares the spot with the University of Michigan and University of Washington and is the only Illinois medical institution on the top 10 list.
